This morning as I was preparing for an upcoming BarCamp I began to consider the topic[s] I wanted to talk about and I realized that I couldn’t plan too specifically as these ‘unconferences’ are developed ‘on the fly’. It’s a little like playing sports. You need to be ready to move with the ball.
I’m thinking that most of my business life is like this. I am a small and nimble business and my real advantage is that I can pivot and turn on a dime. Often this is a far greater benefit to a customer as I can service their exact need far better than a big company with fixed terms, plans, and packages. Jack be nimble..!
So, in thinking of my topic offers I’m preparing for four titles to suggest. I am quite adroit in the social media and internet marketing and web video areas so I can cover far more than we’ll have time for in just a day. So I consider this my “multiple streams of outcome“. Whatever people want to know about these topics I can quickly bundle the relevant info in my mind and talk intelligently about it for half an hour. No problem.
You are filled with experience and expertise in your work and your passions. Think about how much you know about how many things. Even if you’re relatively inexperienced compared to the real gurus and experts, you are still ahead of us. The 4th grader is king to the 1st grader!
You owe it to us to share your valuable insight and knowledge on the things that you bring to the party. We promise to be fascinated, impressed and appreciative. Take a little time to think about the 4 topic titles you could speak on, and keep them in your toolbox for the time that they are needed.

The other thing that came to me was that the events and conferences I attend often give me fantastic ideas and information that were completely unexpected. I go to learn about one thing, and end up with some other brilliant insight. You never know what you’ll get or who you will meet and that may be an even better example of multiple streams of outcome!
