Here are 6 ways to make money from your blog.

You can sell ads – banners or networks like adsense
You can charge for Memberships;
You can sell affiliate products
You can sell your own products
You can write Paid Posts/Reviews
You can also build your business indiresctly by
building your ‘brand’, expertise, and book engagements.

The one bit of advice I’ll give, taken from other succesful bloggers like Gary Vaynerchuk, is to ignore the money until you have built a base of content and traffic first. Trying to monetize a new blog is very hard to do. Get it built, let them come, and then add the income sources over time. At least that’s what those I trust have to say.

I my new blog project I will be dealing primarily with making money with blogs. It will be up soon and I hope to share a post or two here when I have an opportunity.

Having recently moved 2 states up I-85, and returning to school to study web dev, I’ve fallen way out of sync with my LinkedIn account. I need some serious re-do and I need it quick.

Like many of you I’ve been on Linkedin for a long while, but spend little time there lately. Now much has changed, and the stuff I’ve done in the past is simply gone, wrong, or irrelevant. Arggghh!

I’m working on some videos for promotional story-telling and using a couple of creative platforms that help produce some exciting animations.

After reading an email newsletter article from Melisssa Galt I thought that content such as this was perfect for leveraging into a valuable animated video. This can be be very useful in driving increased traffic, engagement, and subscribers.

Turn Your Content Into Short Animated Video

I feel that the video piece has increased uses and may be more likely to be shared. So without asking Melissa I just put a quick summary of the “7 things…” into animated action.

So, I’m trying to get some ideas on ways to use a video like this. I’m not too concerned about this one specifically but in general terms.

The SEO of this could be stronger with a voice over speaking well targeted keywords and added as a transcript, and the whole thing could be polished to be more exciting.

The music track is a little hokey I think but not a bad as some. Over all I think it works ok, especially considering this is a free sample for i-Gen [idea generation]

Without testing there’s no way to know but I’d try putting the video into the email newsletter a see if it helps in driving traffic to the blog or in it being shared.

What ideas or thoughts do you have for this. Do you have a post that you’d like me to turn into something like this? I’m willing to make a couple more for no charge if you’re interested, so let me know something ASAP.

It Might Get Loud features the electric guitar and three of the best rock masters showing what it’s all about. Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, The Edge of U@, and Jack White of the White Stripes and The Raconteurs basically cover the entire history of the electric ax in Rock’n Roll. I always want to see this but never got around to it until I found it in Youtube’s Free movie category. I am amazed, and thrilled. Watch it here and see for yourself.

These days there’s every reason to explore the various youtube offerings and movies can be a great source of free entertainment. There are many TV’s, game consoles and Blu-ray players that feature WiFi YouTube built-in so why not give it a try on the big screen.

Since my TV isn’t wired for YouTube I sometimes watch movies on my laptop. If I want them on the bigger screen I simply use the HDMI connection off the laptop into the TV and use the external monitor. This works great and is something many users don’t even realize they have. Give it a try. If you have no HDMI cable to spare of it’s too short then head over to eBay and search for a 10-15 foot long cable. I find them dirt cheap (about 4 bucks with free shipping) and don’t mind waiting a week.

For those of you with children in the house you may want to be on the watch for the movies listings. The selection can get quite mature, if you know what I mean. If lesbian zombie prison movies are more your thing you may in luck there too.

AudioBoo.FM – is a great way to host every kind of audio from short massages to full podcasts. You can use your computer or smartphone to make great audio content with ease.

I find this a truly exciting site and can’t wait to find more ways to use it. Notice how clean and easy it is to embed in a blog post.

Coincidentally, I ordered a new mic today and will be putting it to some good use next week. Boo!

This little experiment is my first in testing the speed and performance of various graphic hosting options. I expect to discover something but at this point I’m not sure what it will be. Larger files, like video, are probably much more likely to produce noticeable results.

As I play with different options I will be using what I learn to help in my ‘real’ sites and sharing with others in the WordPress training and meetups I enjoy. If you have an idea or tip, or even a question, please use the comments below.

Also, the graphic here is part of a piece I’m working on about WordPress backups that I’m going to be publishing in another blog I’m building. More on that soon.

I’ve left Greensboro several times over the years but it has always been ‘home’. Lately I’ve been spending more and more time there and now I’m teetering on becoming an actual Tar Heel again. I’ll skip the long version but the short poop is after nearly 20 years in Atlanta I am reformulating [again].

Part of what I love about Atlanta is the vibrant Social Media and Tech community. ‘We’ have one of the most active and engaged cities in the world. That’s not something I’m willing to cut loose, so as I transition to NC I’m starting to develop some engaging activity. First off must be a WordPress Meetup.

Green is the name of the WordPress 3.4 release which just hit the streets on June 13th. (for my birthday!) This is a major release and is bring some added features and benefits to the WordPressers of the world, and as always it’s free! Part of our first meeting will be to discuss the new version, why one should upgrade, and explore some of the things that may now be ‘broken’ for those that upgrade.

If you are close to Greensboro and want to know more about blogging or developing with WordPress then please find us and join in. The group will develop a life and personality of its own as we grow so for now there isnt much information. This will change quickly as we spend some time getting organized and develop a plan. If you have ideas, information, or questions you owe it to yourself and the tribe to chime in.
